Aesthetic dermatology is the most agreeable version of our specialist field. Here there are no diseases or ailments. It allows us to satisfy our clients’ longing to feel better about themselves, to view themselves more positively and to receive confirmation of the effects from others.
It is a source of motivation to us because it means we have to undergo continuous training on topics that are advancing at a truly dizzying pace. For instance, just a few years ago no one, not even doctors, had even heard of botulinum toxin (Botox®) and now it is widely popular.
As well as stimulating our scientific curiosity on the advances in this branch of medicine, it exercises our creative powers as we have to interpret the wishes of each person in the right way and know how to provide them with realistic expectations of the products and procedures so they are satisfied with the results.
This consists of administering microinjections of hyaluronic acid mixed with vitamins that are essential for skin renewal. These act as a deposit or store of nutrients for the skin. The effects last for a few months and the microinjections can be administered between 1 and 3 times per year in accordance with the client’s wishes. It is the most natural and safest way of having a younger-looking face.
When a client wishes to change a part of their face for the better, this is facial remodeling. The parts of the face that most people want to improve are usually the nasolabial folds, the deep lines running from the side of the nose down to the mouth that can make a person look tired, fatigued or sad.
Smoothing or removing them instantly takes years off a person’s appearance. To test this effect, all you have to do is stand in front of a mirror and pull your cheeks backwards.
A person might want to slightly (or significantly) increase the volume of one or both of their lips. Or enhance their cheekbones because they have lost a lot of weight for some reason. Or lift and firm their cheeks. Or enhance a receding or short chin. In all these cases, we use hyaluronic acid in its densest variety, as the aim is to achieve tension, firmness or increased volume.
Although the name might be a little alarming, it is a completely harmless product which relaxes the areas of our face that we move involuntarily, causing deep wrinkles such as crow’s feet or the furrow between our eyebrows.
It is true that we see some actresses or other people who “abuse” its use and consequently have completely inexpressive faces. But, as with everything, if it is used in small doses and on very specific areas of the face, it gives us a relaxed and serene expression (even though we may feel tense and frazzled on the inside).
The different types of treatments with laser can produce significant changes.
Non-aggressive fractional laser: an extraordinary laser for repairing and visibly reducing scars, stretch marks or pockmarks.
Pulsed light laser: excellent for eliminating dark spots and smoothing the surface of the skin. It is the essential complement to the injected vitamins and can be applied 1 or 2 times per year to maintain clean, fresh and youthful skin.
Laser hair removal: familiar to many people, this provides permanent freedom from unwanted hair.
